J-1 Internship Program
IEE’s J-1 intern classification allows post secondary students and recent graduates to participate in a structured learning program in their field of study. At the end of the program, participants are given 30 days to travel before departing the country. This type of visa is available for 6 and 12 months.
The regulations of eligibility to participate in the J-1 Intern Program require that a participant must:
Currently be enrolled in and pursuing studies at a foreign degree or certificate-granting post secondary academic institution outside the US and who enters the United States to participate in a structured and guided work-based internship program in his/her specific academic field.
or
Graduated from such an institution no more than 12 months prior to their exchange visitor program begin date and who enters the United States to participate in a structured and guided work-based internship program in his/her specific academic field.
